The requirement to display a black sphere as an indicator that a vessel is at anchor was causing a minor amount of delay and even more concern about even further cost when it was realized that with the aid of a 13inch dinner plate, a pencil, some PVC sheet, a jigsaw and some black paint we could have just the right item for almost nothing.

Two 13inch discs were cut from the white PVC left over from the Sail Locker project and a radial slot were cut in each so that the two discs could slide together at right angles. They were then given a couple of coats black enamel and a lanyard was threaded through both discs to hold them together. Finally a toggle was fitted to the short end of the lanyard to allow easy attachment to the signal halyard.

Of course it just had to be tested ....
